API gateway for telecom operators that open APIs to partners
Telecom operators expose network and customer APIs to partners and run gateway clusters in several locations. G8 gives each partner its own limits, releases backends gradually and shows the state of every gateway node.
What telecom operators need from an API gateway
Partner APIs at an operator change often, run in many places and are watched closely by the partners who use them.
Partners competing for capacity
One busy partner shouldn’t slow down the others.
With G8Rate limits per partner, counted on each node or shared across nodes in Redis.
Backend releases under live traffic
A new backend version reaches every partner at once.
With G8Canary splits send part of the traffic to the new version, and circuit breakers stop requests to a failing backend.
Gateways in many locations
Clusters in several locations are hard to watch as one.
With G8Each cluster is an Environment in one console, with Gateway nodes and Alerts.
The areas of G8 a telecom operator uses
A typical operator uses API Gateway for partner traffic and operations, and AI Gateway when AI agents need its APIs.
A limit for each partner
Limit requests, request rates and concurrent connections per partner Consumer. Set the count and the window yourself, or read them from each request.
- Shared across nodesCount on each gateway node, or share the count across nodes in Redis.
Release backends gradually
Split traffic between upstream versions for canary releases, and stop sending requests to a failing backend while it recovers.
- Circuit breakerWhile the breaker is open, clients get the response you set and the backend isn’t asked.
Alerts on every cluster
Rules on response share, response time or request count for each Environment. System alerts tell you when a gateway node stops reporting or runs a configuration behind the others.
- Email and signed webhooksAlerts go to mail lists and to webhooks signed with HMAC-SHA256.
How a telecom operator puts G8 to work
A typical setup, drawn to show how the parts fit together. It doesn’t describe a specific customer.
A telecom operator offers network and customer APIs to partners and runs gateway clusters in several locations.
Canary splits and circuit breakers protect partners while backends change.
Analytics and Alerts read each Environment’s own Prometheus.
APIs that AI agents need are served through OpenAPI to MCP, under the same rules.
